August offerings at Shambhala Sydney – meditation and more!

Hi everyone!

We have now been at our beautiful new home at Inner West Cultural Services, 35-39 Dickson St, Newtown for two months!

Open House is every Tuesday night (except for the first week of every month, when we meet on Wednesday evenings) from 6pm to 7.30. Open House features sitting meditation, and walking meditation, with meditation instruction for any newcomers. Anyone who has never meditated before is very welcome.

We are a sociable bunch, so there are always cups of tea and chats, before we contemplate and discuss one of the 59 Mahayana slogans of Lojong , along with interpretations from Pema Chodron and Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

Community Night has been running on the first Wednesday of everyone month from 6.30 – 7pm, and features meditation, tea and chats, and a special event. All are welcome!

In July we watched the film Crazy Wisdom: The Life & Times of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. chogyam with camera

Trungpa Rinpoche was both a controversial and inspiring figure in his time, and still today. Watching the film certainly produced some vigorous discussion!

Community night from the first week of August has featured listening to the a wonderful series of teachings by Cynthia Kneen called Shambhala Warrior Training: How to manifest courage, authenticity and gentleness in your everyday life. Cynthia Kneen was a student of Trungpa Rinpoche, and remains an active teacher in the Shambhala tradition.

Upcoming event: Level 2: The Birth of the Warrior.

We are very excited to be offering Level 2 of the five-weekend series of Shambhala training.

Level 2 builds on the foundation of the meditation practice that was introduced in Level I and explores how our habitual ways of thinking obscure the raw brilliance of the world we live in. By opening to our own genuineness and tenderness, we can learn how to work with fear.

Level 2 is from September 9 – 11th, at our Newtown location, and is taught by the wonderful Michael Stanborough from Melbourne. Click here for more details and how to register.
